i couldn't sleep one night last weekend so instead of counting sheep i decided to go out and play with my camera.

the weakness

i just got the best message...the lovely and talented angie from norwegian wood contacted me to let me know she had featured me on her blog the weakness, that she co-writes with her friend christophe. it is such an honor to be featured on her blog as i read it weekly and love the things she makes in her shop. so thanks again angie, you totally made my day! (and don't forget to check out her amazing etsy shop)

in other news i've been thinking off adding some circle scarves to the shop. for much less than other circle scarves from a place that i will not mention. let me know if anyone would be interested. they're made from the same cotton knit that i've been using for my headbands.

and keep your eye out for some new designs in the shop! i am going to be updating it soon..its looking a little empty.

and the winner is...

...every little counts !!!

the funny thing about her winning is that she didn't even know about the contest until the night before. Amy sent me a message on etsy telling me that she had featured me on her blog (so sweet of her:) and in turn i told her about the giveaway. it's funny how things work like that.

Amy also has her own cute line of tshirts, hoodies and totes, so check out her website, and etsy shop too!

thanks so much to everyone who entered, i said it before but i really wish i could give one to everyone! you guys are the best :)

rainy day friday

it was beautiful outside on thursday. here is the photographic evidence:

my first day without a jacket! i was a little chilly a couple of times. but it was worth it. i have been wearing this scarf as a headband and necklace for a while now. i love the simple black and white, and how it goes with everything. some other examples:

i'm totally the kind of person who overkills something when they like it. (ha, can you tell?)

speaking of overkill. i was on the front page again, twice! i can't believe it!! thanks so much to the people who made the treasuries, i wish i knew who you were!

it seems like there has been a small but steady amount of sales because of it. ..and i am so thankful to everyone for the support and still in shock that i've sold any. i absolutely love making things and am so happy to be able to share with others. so thanks again everyone :)

also, the giveaway is closed! and i'll be drawing a random winner on monday. good luck everyone :) i wish i had enough money and i would send one to everyone.

and a special thanks to the lovely purple telescope for letting me know about the front page and sending me this picture :) she's one creative lady...check out her blog, etsy and flickr. all good stuff.

oh and i know i'm late but have a good weekend everyone!!

front page!

yay! first time of the front page, so exciting. and i wouldn't have even known if it weren't for sarah from the skinny, she also featured it on her blog. check it out. thanks again sarah :)

--i just checked out "who hearts me" and it has doubled because of this! (i also noticed that i got a heart from norwegian wood - one of my fav etsy shops) horray, this totally just made my day

tuesday

i got these tights at h&m for $2, i've been looking for some rainbow tie dye (remember this post?) but these will do for now. i also got these sunglasses at joe fresh (you non canadians will probably have no idea what i'm talking about) i absolutely love them and they remind me of the latest dries van noten collection, a little less round, but awesome none the less.

i was able to take these shots outside today! which is fun, i recently was laid off and now i have the days to myself (except for job searching of course) it's not bad though, i had been thinking of leaving there for a while so it was a blessing in disguise. it was really fun telling people i designed stuffed animals for a living, but it was my time to leave.

now i have lots more time to make headbands...so put your orders in :)

DON"T FORGET ABOUT THE CONTEST - it closes FRIDAY!!

joetta maue

joetta does amazing embroideries. i saw her work on a blog a year or so ago and was immediately inspired as i love embroidery and do a little myself. a couple weeks ago i got a message on etsy from joetta asking about a hairband, and needless to say i was delighted! it is such an honor to have such a talented artist interested in something that i do.

these are just a few of her fiber works and drawings
, which are also beautiful. i love the collage aspect to them (and the same little yellow bird in both). check out joetta's website for more of her beautiful work including some photography. she also has a blog and an etsy shop with some of her work, photography and other fun things for sale.

hmmmmmmm?

so i was just going through my reader (yeah i know, i never got on the bloglovin' - i haven't even checked it out...should i?!) ANYWAY..i was readin a little W.L. who had posted about how kanye posted about her blog (confused yet?) so i went to check it out to see what mr. west had to say, and the picture he posted from W.L. has the title from the post she did about one of my hairbands. haha, this might just be a bit pathetic of me - but does that mean kanye read about my hairbands??!

if him or his lady friend wants one i'll gladly send them a box full :)

p.s. - DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE CONTEST!!

bike shopping

My friend julia called on the services of the boy while looking for a bike this weekend (he is a bike courier and bike enthusiast), i went along and managed to snap a couple (okay a lot) of pictures while they looked around, and tested out some bikes. Jules looked really cute and i love her green boots, i couldn't resist taking a picture!
It was a beautiful sunday, the sun was out,and she bought the first bike she saw! The guys at Georges' in kensington market were supper nice and tuned it up, changed the handle bars, and gave her new break lines. Kensington market is the best, i can't wait until summertime. If you ever find yourself in toronto make sure you pass through.

change your heart, look around you, change your heart, it will astound you*

Diana from our.city.lights tagged me, i am usually so bad at these things, but i don't want to spoil anything so i did it! with a couple of modifications. (i couldn't help it!!)
here are the rules:
With as much creativity as you can muster, show your heart in: 1 picture, 1 poem, 1 song or piece of music, 1 phrase or quote, 1 item of clothing, 1 place, 1 Disney princess

a picture:
i love this picture, i know it might not look like it, but he's actually sleeping.

a poem/song/piece of music:
i couldn't pick one poem. but i would probably choose this anyway, by far my favourite album of all time. listen to it in the dark with your headphones on. i dare you.

a quote:

“Forget about the good old days! That just makes your present second-hand. What is interesting is now. If you think it was better before, then you might as well commit suicide immediately.”
-karl lagerfeld
by no means do i think anyone should go kill themselves, actually i don't like even joking about it. however for karl there is always an exception, and the man has an excellent point, i have trouble letting go of the past sometimes, and this is inspiring- and also just plain hilarious. (also- i just bought lagerfeld confidential and i'm pretty excited about it)

an item of clothing:

a good pair of jeans. i couldn't function without them, i bought this pair soo many years ago and they are still kicking, and getting more comfortable by the day.
a place:

a music festival, in the summer, outside, anywhere in the world. as long as there is grass, sky and music i 'm there.

a princess:

i know its supposed to be disney, and if i had to choose one it would probably be belle, as that was the disney/princess movie i watched the most as a kid. however if i could pick any princess it would probably be elvin princess arwen. haha i'm such a nerd, i love science fiction/fantasy and all that stuff (yes i read the books), plus these pictures of liv tyler are absolutely gorgeous.

(all photo's mine except radiohead and LOTR - google images)

*from beck song "everybody's gotta learn sometime" -eternal sunshine of the spotless mind soundtrack - also a fav. and i love that line so much.

spring things

the shop is updated! added a couple new things + the headbands from below. so excited on all the people that have commented for the contest! keep them coming, tell your friends! i wish i could give one to everyone :)

-diana tagged me....I'm so bad at these, i find it hard to pick one of anything (let alone one song - that is probably one of the hardest questions you could ask me haha) but I'm working on it...
-i really need to get on a new banner for the shop, it's not really about the buttons anymore.

G I V E A W A Y ! ! !

I love getting things in the mail, it's probably my favourite part about online shopping, having a nice little package come to my door is more than half the fun, even if i am disappointed by what's inside. I also love sending things and giving people gifts, its so fun, and i guess it's partly selfish because i enjoy it so much, but its mutually beneficial so i don't feel too bad about it. After being inspired by this wonderful post (and i think there's still time to enter! - which i shouldn't even mention because now i have less chances of winning haha) i decided i would do a headband giveaway!

Because things have been a little crazy lately i still haven't had the chance to put these babies up on etsy, so it's also a bit of a sneak peek. Only one other person than myself owns one of these headbands (the lovely julystars ordered two last week - if by some chance you don't know her blog go check it out!!). All of these designs are the same, they're all just in different colours and the cotton varies in weight and texture so each one has a bit of a different look. The winner can pick whichever colour they like, i also have red, black, white and light blue as well.

Here's how it will work: just leave a comment below and in two weeks time (contest will close friday april 3rd at midnight) i will pick a winner at random. I will ship internationally as well so anyone can enter! If you don't have a blog with an email address, or a blog at all, just make sure there is some way i will be able to contact you.

if it weren't for blogging i don't think i would have even sold one of these guys, so its kind of just my way of saying thanks.

GOOD LUCK and have a lovely weekend everyone!

i'm a little behind...

when fashion week comes it all gets a little overwhelming and i can't be bothered to stalk all of the collections and check back daily to see whats going on. often i just read recaps on blogs, and for the most part that's enough for me. i haven't really seen it all but there are always a few that i check. i am a big fan of dries van noten this season. the colours are just perfect, a little off and strange but it works so well.

i'm still loving burberry as well, not as much as last season and i wish there was a bit more colour, but its just totally my style, it seems to easy to wear and the jackets are as always amazing.

(all pictures style.com)

i found out how to make my pictures bigger, but it looks like the quality of these isn't the best. sorry about that. i'm sure some of you hate this right now. i'm no graphic designer...

its also the first day of spring! yay, lets hope the spring weather shows up sometime soon too.

mask

lately i have been going through a bunch of old stuff, organising and trying to do some spring cleaning. i guess in a way i'm looking to the past for inspiration, and really just doing something to keep me occupied. when sorting through my room i remembered this mask that i made for a friends art project. she was make a photography book and had her friends (mostly artists/crafty people) make masks out of 100% recycled materials (mine is made of old clothing and a cereal box). she then photographed us wearing our masks in our favourite spot. this is what i came up with:

(detail of the back - the yellow material is from an old thrifted polyester dress, that was not very nice and practically disintegrating but i absolutely love the pattern and couldn't let it go to waste)

it looks a bit funny on my face, i didn't really do the best job with measurements, but it's really nicer on its own anyway. When i found this i realised that most of that is going on could easily be translated into headbands and necklaces, i might tone it down and little and obviously it wouldn't have the mask element to it, but i think that with a few adjustments and some playing around it might just work.

i have also been making more headbands, not up on etsy yet, but if you'd like, check out my flickr. they're all posted on there for now, as well as some more of my art and all the other things i've made. if anyone is interested in a custom order or anything else at all, just leave me a message/email me and i will get back to you asap.

i've got nothing

oil on canvas 52X102 cm
..except for a lack of inspiration and motivation, the last couple weeks have felt a bit low. The seasons are changing and I’m happy for it but everything else seems to be stuck in monotony and its starting to get to me.

This is another painting I did a while ago. I guess I’m trying to inspire myself or something, i don't think its working though. I haven’t painted in so long. It makes me feel a bit sad...but I’m going to stop now before Debbie downer gets out of control...ha

Here’s hoping that no one else is really feeling like this. Oh and happy st. patty’s day too ! (which I will celebrate by myself at my work desk – these are the days I wish I was still in school)

can we share clothes please?

more than once i have found myself saying something along the lines of how i feel sorry for men because they don't have as many options with clothing as women do. thinking about it i find it funny how for the last year or so i've been just as, or more, inspired by men's fashion than women, especially when it comes to street style. So i take back my statement, and apologise to all of those guys out there who i may have offended by saying it. how wrong i was!
this guy from styleclicker is on the top of my list right now. i came across this picture this morning and all i could think to myself was "perfect" the casual style, the subtle mix of pattern and colour, that HAT! i wish there was a full length shot cause those jeans look wonderful as well. i would wear it exactly as it is, not to mention i really love the combination of blue black and brown.... and the colour of the coat, similar to the fellow in this post, has got me hunting high and low for a vibrant blue spring jacket.

under the weather

, originally uploaded by deepeedoubleyou.

I’ve been sick for the last couple of days, and just when i thought i was getting better.......smack! it all comes rushing back in the form of the worst sinus headache imaginable.

so needless to say i haven't been up to much lately...except lying around and trying to mentally organize myself.

thanks to everyone who's bought/asked about headbands! i've sold a few so far and i'm really excited about it. there seems to be good things in the air (besides my germs) and i can't wait till spring!

I’m uploading this picture from my flicker. i haven't tried it before and wanted to see what it would look like on the blog. also the massive amounts of snow makes me happy cause there isn't any more on the ground! yay

edit* you cant see the whole picture on the page - does anyone know how i can fix this?

from - to +

are you guys tired of this stuff yet?
well i hope not, just added a few scarf headband/neck piece's to the shop. the new cotton headbands aren't up yet but look for them next week!
i'm feeling a lot better today but i think it also has something to do with the fact that its friday and +15 outside to day. YES you read right, +15!! This monday it was -18 with the windchill, i'm not joking..the weather went from -18 to +15 in a week! its insane. but one thing to love about canada's crazy climate. at least we get some gems like this mixed in with all of the crazy cold and snow. and i'm definitely going to try and enjoy it, off for a little stroll before my lunch is over!

have a good weekend everyone :)

something new

some new hair/headband (i never know what to call them?) designs for the etsy shop. they're actually all the same design but in different fabrics. these ones are also a little different, they will be made to order, and instead of tying them in the back i'm going to sew them together. the band is a bit wider, and sewing the ends together allows for better wear and you don't have to worry about having a big old knot on the back of your head. i'll put these up next week! also look for some new vintage scarf designs that should be up by tomorrow!
in other news the weather is getting nicer outside, which is amazing...but i have a terrible head cold, which usually happens to me when the weather changes....boourns.
ha you can tell that i never brush my hair in these pictures, my hair's all fuzzy....hm maybe its time to invest in one, and start wearing makeup when i take these things..
